The challenge
The total number of listed buildings in England is thought to be around 500,000. Our diverse range of designated heritage assets - including buildings, monuments, battlefields, archaeological sites, parks and gardens - are a unique record of how past communities have shaped our environment. An increasing realisation of the importance of our heritage is creating a greater willingness to protect it.
So how do we shape change in the historic environment? How do we allow people to use, benefit and enjoy their heritage, balancing the conservation of assets with their immediate and wider social, cultural and economic needs, without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same?
Our solution
SCAPE and our framework partners have the expertise and passion to sensitively manage change in the historic environment combined with the creativity to find solutions to perceived problems and realising the potential of historic places in need of a better future.
